A quick Saturday afternoon dispatch from the jewelry bench.
Today, the Vista Gem & Mineral Society held its annual open house. As a Monday night lapidary instructor and a volunteer there for the last five years, I breezed in to show the students some of my recent work and catch up with the rock-hound community.
I set up a mini visual display right inside, and within 40 minutes, the Pietersite Teardrop Ring found its forever home.

The teardrop shape is a classic, but cutting it by hand takes patience. You have to map the stone's natural fractures, grind the perfect symmetry on the wheels, and forge a custom silver bezel that hugs those clean, sloping lines perfectly.
While the pietersite version from today's open house is officially moving into the Stix and Stoned archive, its sister piece is still up for grabs.
